Adding Line Items, Taxes & Discounts

Configure multi-tax calculations (GST, VAT, Sales Tax), export zero-rated rules, itemized discounts, and line-item scopes.

Accurate tax handling and itemized transparency prevent client billing disputes. Flanceflow includes an enterprise-grade calculation engine supporting multi-tier domestic taxes, cross-border zero-rating, and flexible discounts.

How to configure line items, taxes, and discounts

  1. In the Invoice Editor, click "+ Add Line Item" to create additional billing rows.
  2. Select a pre-saved service from the dropdown to automatically prefill the title, rate, and tax rate.
  3. To add a custom item: Type the item title, specify quantity (hours or units), and enter the unit price.
  4. Applying Tax: Click the "Tax" column selector on the row. Choose from your configured tax presets (e.g. 18% GST, 20% VAT, 0% Export Zero-Rated, or Custom).
  5. To add a discount: Toggle "Add Discount" beneath the subtotal. Choose between Percentage (e.g., "10% Early Bird Discount") or Flat Amount (e.g., "$250 Loyalty Credit").
  6. The subtotal, tax breakdown table, discount deduction, and grand total recalculate dynamically in real time.

Tax and discount best practices

  • Saving tax templates: Go to Settings > Customize to configure default tax rates so they automatically apply to every new invoice draft.
  • Itemized scopes: Use the description field below each line item to bullet out specific deliverables, ensuring the client knows exactly what each charge represents.
  • Milestone percentage billing: You can enter partial milestones (e.g., "50% Project Deposit") as a single clean line item.
